Travelling to 3 European countries with a budget

“Travel whenever you find balance in three things: Time, Energy and Money “ An advice given to me by a wise traveller I had the chance to meet in Poland. This person told me how he was able to find this balance just after his retirement and about his current plan to travel for a few months. In addition to being inspired the words also made me think ‘How many of us postpone travel plans as we lack this balance’. I dedicate this post to help you find balance with one of the 3 things: Money.

Travelling to European countries if planned well in advance could be very affordable. Here I will go through my travel expenditures when visiting three European countries: Poland ,Austria and Germany.

I had a month to plan this trip and having already visited 2 of the 3 countries I had some insights on getting the best prices .To begin with ,it is crucial while travelling with a budget to choose the most economical mode of transport. As I stay in Sweden I will be travelling from Sweden and returning back to Sweden. Keep in mind that travelling by car is also an option but there is always the risk of hefty fines when you travel in Europe and this could be a big dent in the pocket.

Travelling from Stockholm,Sweden to Wroclaw, Poland : By flight

Poland is 1300+ km by road from Sweden so travelling by car was not the most economical option and considering the time to reach ,the best option was by flight. It takes 2 hours to fly from Sweden to Poland. The airlines I have chosen for this trip is Ryanair which offers cheap flights to many destinations at lower prices as low as 9 Euros per ticket(~720 Rs) . So the total price for 2 tickets Including 1 checkin bag and after selecting seats came up to 38 Euro(~2900 Rs). It is good to know that check-in baggages and seat selections in these airlines are charged and it can be sometimes more than the ticket price, always choose to do this early on to save the most.

Travelling from Wroclaw,Poland to Vienna,Austria - By Bus

Austria is 400+ kms from Poland by road. Both by bus and by train it takes around 7-9 hours to reach Vienna.I decided to travel by bus overnight as it will save me the cost of lodging for a night. Flixbus offers cheap rates to travel between countries in Europe .I was able to manage two tickets for 40 euros (~3200 Rs)

Travelling from Vienna Austria to Germany -By train

Germany is situated right next to Austria .As germany hosts Octoberfest during september and October my next plan naturally was germany. After travelling to Hallstat from Vienna and spending few days at the Upper Austrian Alps I planned to head towards Germany and I choose Train as the means of transport. This costed me around 50 Euros (~4000 Rs) for two tickets which isn’t so bad.

Flight Tickets to travel back to Sweden :42 Euros(~3400 Rs)

So the overall expenses for travelling to 3 countries and heading back was around 6800 Rs per person which is less than travelling to another state in India by flight in most cases.

Hope this post sheds some light towards travel expenditures in Europe to travel between countries . Remember to check the best means of travel and book well before to receive best discounted prices.

P.s: Expenditures stated in the post are only direct transfer costs and does not involve local transports and accommodation costs.
